Reverse Mortgage Statistics Show HECM Activity Continues to Soar

The growing popularity of reverse mortgages was evident again in June with 7,572 originations of the popular [tag]HUD[/tag] [tag]HECM[/tag] reverse mortgage. Although down somewhat from the record 8,414 originations in May 2006, the June figure still represents a 135% increase over the 3,228 originations made during June 2005. The growth trend is further evident comparing the twelve-month periods ending each June over the last three years:

On a calendar year basis, 40,910 HECM [tag]reverse mortgages[/tag] have been endorsed so far in 2006 compared to 20,989 for the same period in 2005.
